The Gliding Club of Western Australia is situated at Cunderdin, in the heart of the Wheat Belt region of WA, only one and a half hours drive East from Perth. The Club was established in 1944 at the former Caversham Airfield and moved to its current home in Cunderdin in 1959; making it the longest established Gliding Club in the State. GCWA has grown over the years to be a close knit club with a strong emphasis on Cross-Country flying and maintaining a strong social atmosphere amongst great friends. For the young and old, male and female - gliding is truly a sport for all.
The club situated in an ideal location centrally within the West Australian wheat belt, where we are able to take advantage of the magnificent soaring conditions provided by the relatively flat, sun-drenched wide-open spaces. Of the three clubs nearest to Perth we are best able to make use of not only the better thermal activity but also, being further inland, the reduced probability of sea breezes that can put an early end to big soaring days.
We are fortunate fly from a very large and well maintained sealed airfield with cross strips that are free of turbulence from trees, allow operation with the wind coming from any direction, and are always close to local sources of lift.
