Gliding School - Zar in Poland
The 70 year old
mountain gliding school
at Zar is located in the town of Miedzybrodzie Zywieckie, situated in
Southern Poland, about 80km south of Gliwice. At the foot of the picturesque
Zar mountain, 700m (2100ft) high, is Zywiec reservoir. The location
and construction of the hydro-electric power station in 1960 has irreversibly
destroyed the higher level airfield. The lower airfield continues to
operate. The opening of the funicular railway in 2003 provides access
and means of transport to the top for tourist and gliders. Hillside
launches are again possible.
