Getting solo
- we can help
The cost to fly is certainly
well below what people expect, it does cost a little more to go become
solo, as this often requires a number of flights over a short period
of time to become proficient. One advantage of the Gliding Club of Western
Australia is that we offer reduced rates for pre-solo pilots.
All training is done by qualified
instructors free of charge. On average it will take about 40 flights,
before a pilot becomes proficient.
As a guide, a prospective
pilot could expect to spend around $2,100 to become solo.
The GCWA advantage
If a pilot then joins the
bulk scheme, the upfront cost at the beginning of the year is $650.00.
Once the pilot has flown 17
hours the flying becomes cheaper, as it is effectively free, and the
only other costs that may apply are those associated with launches that
are required at the beginning of each flight.
A pilot on the Bulk scheme
that flies 100 hours per year, at two hours per flight would be paying
$13.00 per hour.
